Flying Yacht Introduced at Monaco Yacht Show

October 9, 2016

Dubia-based Enata Industries brought a 20’ prototype of their new “flying yacht” line to the Monaco Show earlier this week. The yacht line will feature normal boats with foils, or wings, attached to the hull.

During low speed maneuvers the boat will operate with the patented retractable foils up. But, with a push of a button the foils can be lowered to lift the boat out of the water when take-off speed of 18-20 knots is reached. Once on the foils, the boats will ride quieter and more comfortably than most other boats its size. And, with less hydrodynamic drag – the new design is expected to reduce fuel consumption up to 30%.

The Foiler 41 will be offered in three different deck configurations, and diesel/electric hybrid power.

Personally, I believe hydrofoil designs, historically used in many military and commercial applications due to their many benefits, will become increasingly popular in recreational applications.
