Fall Haul – Out
Fall Haul-Out
The Spring Commissioning and Fall De-Commissioning Processes are critical to ensure the longevity of your boat. Here’s a short list of some of the activities you or your local pro might do. Remember to consult your local pro if you have any concerns about what to do and how to do it.
- Add fuel stabilizer and change the engine and system gas filers
- Flush the engine with fresh water and then purge all the water
- Change the engine oil and engine filter
- Change the lower unit fluid
- Change the zincs on the engine and outdrive
- Add antifreeze to the block
- Grease any engine or outdrive fittings
These, of course, are some simple highlights. Consult your local pro before getting involved. A few tips; organize your supplies and tools prior to starting the job; have plenty of rags to deal with spills; communicate frequently with any “helper” to avoid dangerous accidents; and use a check-sheet to ensure you don’t overlook anything.
Winterization is an important, but oftentimes dangerous activity. Marine professionals are typically your best bet in this area. Remember, safety comes first, both on and off the water.
