Boat Museums – Great Destination Points
Recently, when attending one of the major Spring boat shows, I came across a representative from the Antique Boat Museum, or ABM, in Clayton, NY. Now, if you’re seriously into antique and classic wood powerboats, like Chris Crafts, Garwoods, Centuries and the like, you recognize ABM. The Museum, located on the St. Lawrence river, has a collection of over 300 classic wood boats and is the site of some of the most prestigious judging contests on the East Coast every summer. They offer boat building classes for families and individuals, and on-going professional boat-building exhibitions, too. While my Museum visits have been restricted primarily to the NH Boat Museum which has a a significantly smaller, but still very interesting display, of antique and classic boats, the conversation got me interested in heading West. Look up the Museum in your neck of the woods, they’re great destinations.
