Going Green

The age of “green” outboard power is upon us. Elco Motor Yachts introduced 5 and 7-hp equivalent electric models, and 9.9 and 25-hp models are planned for 2015. Germany’s Torqeedo produces 6 and 10-hp equivalent electric engines which are carried by major U.S. marine retailers. And, LEHR, a manufacturer of propane powered outboards offers 2.5, 5, 9.9, and 15-hp equivalent propane engines. Power packages from all companies promise to offer economical and environmentally-friendly alternatives to conventional outboards.
