July 4th
The biggest holiday of the year is upon us once more. The Fourth of July is an exciting holiday with many boaters able to see fireworks over the water. Unfortunately, along with the excitement comes a dash of danger.
Boating at night is a very different experience than daytime boating. You can’t see many objects from lobster pot buoys to navigation buoys to rocks. And shore lights intermingle with boat lights making it difficult to discern safe channels.
To ensure you have a safe and fun holiday, be sure to do a little pre-planning about your route and final destination. Give yourself plenty of time to get where you’re going. And, when in doubt, take the safest path. Fireworks on the water are great, just be careful not to pay too high of a price for the outing.
