New DIY Stuff
Recently, I did a show with a major marine company to highlight new offerings in adhesives, sealants, and paints available to boaters.
A couple of those that I found most interesting were in the adhesives category. The group was basically comprised of two part epoxies that could be used to repair dings, cracks, and holes. One epoxy was unique in that it could be applied underwater and would cure underwater, a definite plus if you need to get home under your own power after hitting a sharp object. Another epoxy, dispensed in a large caulking gun, was not as water friendly when uncured, however it was well suited to filling large, structural, holes and cracks without sagging in a short period of time.
Epoxy adhesives have been around for a while and many DIY repair people have found them useful. Today, the epoxies are even more powerful and useful and I, for one, plan to use them to solve more onboard adhesive issues in the near future.
