Slippery Conditions

April 8, 2022

The weather is starting to turn and spring commissioning activities are coming up fast. All sorts of things are on the “to do” list – washing, waxing, tuning, and painting, just to name a few. If you’ve done them before, none of them are particularly challenging, they just take time and effort. But, never let go of the thought that even the most basic chores can be dangerous. When you’re walking on wet foredecks with last year’s topsiders, it is all too easy to slip and fall onto the pavement below. And when you’re reconnecting the battery cables, sparks can fly if the connections are reversed. Finally, the new technologically-advanced antifouling paints have superior capabilities to old versions, but think about the impact of that toxicity on your eyes should you make a careless error. Keeping safe is comprised of basic actions that most boaters are aware of. Just don’t let your guard down when coming out of the long winter layup or you’ll pay a larger price than anticipated.
