Maine Boat Show
March 23, 2014
Last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending the annual Portland Boat Show. On display were finely crafted lobster yachts; elegant sailboats; and unique new trawler and center console designs.
Held in a rambling configuration of old factory-type buildings, the show had a solid down-East feel and the exhibitors were both knowledgeable and friendly. I learned about the suspect economics of owning an older wooden boat; modular cutlass bearings; and how custom canoes are built. I even knocked around some ideas for some upcoming TV shows.
If you’re really into boats, or simply want a change of pace, try the spring Portland show, you’ll be glad you did.
