Earlier today, I read an interesting article in Soundings that focused on a modern version of the Mayflower. The 53-foot trimaran, named for the historical vessel, will operate autonomously and be propelled by a hybrid propulsion system as it performs ocean research. While most people are aware of “self-driving” cars, many are unaware of autonomous boats. But, when you think about it, many of the pros and cons related to vehicles could apply to boats.
